Naked underlings weaved their way through the hordes of guests with trays of green absinthe and angel’s breath – a special wine made with the blood of virgins. By the pillar on the top step a shirtless couple writhed together, their hands all over each other, their kisses hot and passionate. Below in the main ballroom, vampyres danced to the music being played by a live orchestra. The sound they produced was exotic, played on instruments from the old countries. The dances were foreign to Jacob. Some vampyres danced in pairs, others in quartets, creating a spectacular twirling, whirling, kicking and skipping mass.

On the far side of the room under a blood red canopy trimmed with gold fringing sat the Emperor. Beneath the potted palms that flanked him stood naked guards, their muscular bodies still amidst the vitality of the party, their massive cocks on show for everyone to see. The Emperor himself seemed amused, watching his guests enjoy themselves while various individuals approached him and paid tribute, either by kissing his boots or the ruby ring on his finger.

Jacob lost sight of him though as they walked down the steps and into the ballroom."
